Looking Ahead: Renewal, Reflections, and Service in the New Year

Dawn Gramza, Department President 2025-2026

As we step into a brand-new year, I am filled with gratitude for the dedication and passion each of you brings to the American Legion Auxiliary. January offers us a fresh start to the new year and an opportunity to reflect on our journey, renew our commitment, and set our sights on the important work ahead.

Reflecting on our accomplishments, 2025 was a year of both challenges and triumphs. Our units rallied together to support veterans and their families, spearheaded community service projects, and fostered a spirit of patriotism in our neighborhoods. Every hour volunteered, every dollar raised, and every act of kindness made a lasting impact. Thank you for your unwavering service and resilience.

I want to thank you for the hospitality I received from the units I was able to visit in the past 6 months. I traveled across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and visited with many members of the Legion Family. I enjoyed spending time with veterans at the veterans’ home and hospital. I was in awe of the beautiful areas and nature I witnessed during the tour.

Renewing our commitment as we begin 2026, let us recommit ourselves to the values at the heart of the American Legion Auxiliary, which include service, advocacy, and unity. I encourage each member to reach out to someone new, bring a friend to a meeting, or share your story of why ALA matters to you. Growing our membership strengthens our voice and our ability to serve.

Upcoming initiatives and opportunities in the next month include our Winter Meeting, where many of our unit members will congregate. Our gatherings are valuable opportunities for learning, networking, and inspiration. I urge you to attend if you can, share your ideas, and gain new perspectives. We are also launching our annual scholarship drives. Please help spread the word to eligible students and families.

Honoring and supporting our Veterans and their families is our core mission, and it remains steadfast. Do the same for military personnel and their families. Let’s all remember to check in on those who may need companionship or assistance during these winter months. Small gestures like a phone call, a card, or an offer of help can mean so much.

Thank you for all you do! For your community, for one another, and for our nation’s heroes. I look forward to working with you in the months to come, and I am excited about all we will accomplish together. Let’s make 2026 a year of service, growth, and fellowship.

I extend my gratitude and best wishes to you all for a happy, healthy New Year.
