To support U.S. Navy Sailors navigating an exceptionally lengthy deployment, a new urgent morale-boosting initiative is delivering customized “Care Packages from Home” directly to the crew aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73).
Extended deployments and demanding operational schedules present significant mental and emotional challenges for service members separated from their families and loved ones. Acknowledging the weight of long stretches at sea, volunteer organizations, military support groups, and family readiness networks have joined forces to supply personalized care boxes designed to combat homesickness, raise spirits, and reaffirm community support from the home front.

Each care package is carefully curated with items tailored specifically to shipboard life, focusing on practical needs, comfort, and personal connection:
- Tastes of Home: Non-perishable favorite snacks, regional specialties, hot sauce, specialty coffee, and flavor packets for shipboard drinking water.
- Personal & Deck-Plate Comforts: High-quality toiletries, breathable crew socks, cooling towels, eye masks, and noise-canceling earplugs for improved sleep quality during continuous flight ops.
- Mental Welfare & Recreation: Books, card games, puzzle magazines, and portable activities to encourage downtime relaxation and camaraderie in the berthing compartments.
