From the Desk of the President – August 2024

Julie Becker
Department President
2024-2025

Hello, my fellow Auxiliary members!

I am honored to be elected as your Department President for the term 2024-2025. I will strive to make the Department of Michigan American Legion Auxiliary even more amazing than it already is. Some may wonder how this will be achieved—simple, more training. Policies, procedures, protocol, constitution, by-laws and standing rules are just a few of the topics that will be focused on. We need to get back to our basics, aka our roots. The focus this year will be on the Units. Our Units are the seeds of the organization. Like any seed that has been planted, it needs water (information) and sunlight (mentoring) to be able to grow. With our amazing program committee’s assistance, we will ensure our units get all the information and training they need. “Here Comes The Sun…”

Mentoring is vital. I am happy to see so many new faces in our organization. To those who have been involved with the ALA for a while now, include our new members in activities. Do not scare them off with hearsay, gossip, or any other type of ‘Mean Girl” antics. Be a mentor, answer their questions, explain why things are or are not done within the organization, and be the sun!

I look forward to ROCKING 4 OUR VETERANS with Commander Dan Cooper, My new Son, Detachment Commander Todd Vandam, and my Daughter, Honorary Jr President Abbie Jones, this year.

My special project this year is 906 Warrior. This is a 501 c-3 that started in Little Lake Michigan, in The U.P. We all will be hearing more about this amazing program at the fall conference.

So get your saddle shoes, bell-bottom jeans, gold lame suits, neon scrunchies, aqua net hairspray, leather pants, and band tees out, and get ready to “Rock 4 our Veterans.”
