Help us recruit students! If a student is interested in attending Girls State, it is June 22-28, 2025 on the beautiful campus of Michigan State University. Please share this website with them: https://bit.ly/MIGirlsStateApply. If you plan on sponsoring a candidate, give them the name of your ALA Unit, Post, SAL Squadron, or organization. They will need to enter that information on their application and assist us in forwarding it to the sponsoring organization. There is no paper application. We are accepting online applications only.
We already have two delegates. This means that students are interested in the program.! We hope it energizes you to get the word out to our communities. Now is the time for our ALA Units, Legionnaires, and SAL Squadrons to submit their pledges to sponsor one or more students to ALA Michigan Girls State! The link to that form is: https://bit.ly/MIGirlsStateSponsor.
Reach out to Legion Family members to ask if they have friends or relatives who know high school juniors. Post flyers with a QR code for the applications to Girls State or Boys State in your local libraries, high schools, military recruiting offices, and businesses where young people frequent. The link to our ALA Girls State Application is https://bit.ly/MIGirlsStateAp-ply. Boys State can be found at https://michiganboysstate.org/. Additional information and forms for both programs are available at https://michalaux.org/girls-state/ and https://michiganboysstate.org/. If you have a problem getting into the schools and need the name and contact information of any high school principal or superintendent in Michigan, please contact Beryl, who has access to that information.
We have renewed enthusiasm for our program after attending the ALA Girls State/Girls Nation Conference in Indianapolis. Great ideas were shared, and new friendships were formed. We learned that Senators Maloney and Onwochei, selected from ALA Michigan Girls State to attend ALA Girls Nation, submitted a bill titled “Qureshi Firearm Accountability Act.” Only 16 bills out of 49 were passed, and Michigan’s was one of them! The staff of ALA Girls Nation complimented the attendees on how great we did in selecting our senators, stating that it was one of the best groups they ever had, and encouraged us to do the same great job next year.
Thank you for supporting us. Your generosity has made a difference in our program. We hope you will help us spread the word about this amazing week of learning focused on responsible citizenship and leadership to sponsors and students in your communities.
