We currently have 103 residents, 97 men and six women, 99 veterans, and four spouses. We have been doing bingo parties and the Veteran’s Day Ceremony, and we try to provide the necessary items. Thanks to Department President Julie Becker, who helped us secure funding for four much-needed specialty beds for the Jacobetti Home. Thanks so much to Marquette #44 Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons, who donated other equipment. Munising Auxiliary #131 also made a lovely donation to Jacobetti.

We are still limited because of CDC guidelines regarding community health issues. Pre-COVID, the Auxiliary hosted bingo every Monday. A few of our volunteers help with other activities as needed. Bingo is still once a week, but we divide the hosting between other service organizations.

Thank you to the District UPAA, who supported Our Mother’s and Father’s Day celebrations. We purchased flowers for the grounds at Jacobetti. We have had outings to Marquette Post #44 and Greenwood Post #114.  Thank you to the Auxiliary always ensuring our veterans have a great time and feel welcome.

Construction for the new Veterans Home in Marquette will begin in the spring of 2025 now that a location has been chosen. I think our veterans deserve the very best for the sacrifices they made for us, and they are very excited about a new home.

We were allowed more volunteers in the home for our Christmas gift shop. It was great to see the folks from Munising Unit #131 on the first day of the gift shop. After the gift shop was complete, we had a few holiday parties, and our service groups met to plan events. Keeping our residents active and social helps to keep them healthy. Thanks to all the UPAA Units assigned to Jacobetti for your donations, whether gifts, gift cards, or money. Black Friday deals made the donated money go a little further.

Please keep our residents in your hearts and prayers. Some of our residents don’t receive many visitors during the winter months. Our Adopt a Vet program is going strong, with 14 residents receiving extra TLC. Are you interested in sponsoring a Veteran? I can send your unit or post some information for you to choose someone. Thank you for the opportunity to be your Hospital Representative, and many thanks to my deputy, Linda Kaare. She is the perfect companion to help care for our veterans.
